Why subscribe?
I’ve been covering Charlton Athletic for a loooooong time - and I don’t want that to stop.
South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition gives me the opportunity to continue covering the club. You can also help shape the coverage - I want to write the stories that cover the players or subjects that matter to you.
This website launched before the start of the 2025-25 Championship season. By the end of that first campaign back at that level, there have been 400 articles/podcasts published.
I’ve got hold of some of the SE7 legends - Chris Powell, Johnnie Jackson, Dean Kiely and Yann Kermorgant - and there will be plenty more to come.
I can’t promise I’ll be first with every transfer or big story to come out of SE7, but I’m pretty confident that I will always be able to get plenty of interesting titbits first and also provide extra insight.
This platform means I can remain independent. That’s a badge I wear with pride.
With 19 years under my belt covering south London football (I’ve got the scars to show it), it means I have plenty of contacts to tap into - stuff that isn’t already in the public domain.
The support of paid subscribers has allowed me to achieve a first. I had never covered an entire campaign home and away in a season. But that box has now been ticked. I attended all of the league and cup matches, as well as not missing any of the friendlies that took place in the UK.
As I write this, we’re about to head into the summer. But that commitment to providing the best Charlton Athletic coverage is not going to be dialling down.
The intention is to be right across any major stories and that obviously includes the transfer window. I’ve got plenty of ideas for features and articles that I can’t wait to do as well.

Essentially, this means you get access to everything.
During the 2025-26 Championship season there was a post-match podcast recorded (hosted and edited masterfully by Louis Mendez) straight after each match and released before we left the stadium. We are also going to be recording episodes over the summer. If there is a big breaking story - like a high-profile signing - then the plan is for us to pod as swiftly as possibly can to bring you reaction!
You also get access to features, interviews and analysis pieces. There are none of those horrible pop-ups and adverts which litter so many websites and make them a proper hassle to navigate around.
This Substack in the longer term will be supported by you.
