Onel Hernandez on THAT reaction to Ipswich fans, Kaminski on Charlton's 1-1 draw against Swansea City, women extend lead at top of WSL 2 and loan strikers score
The latest review of the week - a round-up of Charlton Athletic news
It’s the latest review of the week. If there has been a news story covering Charlton Athletic, it should be here!
HERNANDEZ: I DON’T LIKE THEM AND THEY DON’T LIKE ME
The picture above certainly got some traction on social media.
Onel Hernandez cupping his ear - and looking distinctly unimpressed - at the abuse the former Norwich City attacker received when Charlton Athletic played at Ipswich Town last month.
The Cuban, 32, was on media duties before Saturday’s home game against Swansea City.
“The history of me playing for Norwich - Ipswich is a big rival for us,” Hernandez told South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition, when asked about the photo taken by Kyle Andrews. “I don’t like them and they probably don’t like me.
“There was a lot of booing and noisy sounds from them. My reaction was the perfect one after our result. I enjoyed that day.”
Hernandez has previously warned Marcelino Nunez: “If I get a chance to play against you then I will fucking break you.” That was in reference to Nunez leaving Norwich for the Tractor Boys in the summer.
“I wish I had come on the pitch because I had something to sort out,” said Hernandez last week. “Maybe next time.”
Hernandez was asked to recreate his pose by a Charlton supporter after the 1-1 draw at Hull City.
“We took the train home and we had a lot of chats with fans,” he said. “It is just funny that they wanted me to do that again.”
Hernandez signed a short-term deal at the end of September with the Addicks.
He had been released by Norwich at the end of last season and had been training with Sheffield Wednesday.
“It was a tricky situation because I did that for one or two months before I came to Charlton,” said Hernandez. “At the end they couldn’t sign any players because of what is going on there, it’s very difficult for them.
“I got in touch with Nathan (Jones). I knew him from playing against him in the past.
“Everything about him has surprised me. I have worked with a lot of coaches. He is really passionate about it. He told us before the game at Ipswich that he was literally sleeping at the training ground - I never heard something like that.
“The club has to be very grateful for a coach like that. He just gives everything for the club.”
Hernandez made his debut at right wing-back against Hull City.
His ideal position would be more advanced than that.
“I’m an attacking threat but I could also play at wing-back because I’ve got the whole wing to myself,” said Hernandez. “I’m quick so I get into one-on-one situations with the opposition. Both positions are absolutely fine.”
Hernandez is an admirer of the way that Jones goes about his business.
“Everybody probably now thinks ‘wow, Charlton have had an amazing start’. No, that’s what Nathan Jones brings in and what the players take from him. If you do your basics and work hard, to just develop a bit, this is the result of it.
“We have to look after ourselves and the results come from that.
“A lot of teams in the league try to play that beautiful football. It’s not what sometimes brings you points. You can have the best players and play amazing football - try to build from the back - but that can be very complicated.
“Some teams can wait for those moments. Nathan Jones has found the mix of how to manage those situations. We are quite direct. We can also keep the ball. Football sometimes is very simple.”

KAMINSKI: SWANSEA WERE BETTER ON THE BALL
Thomas Kaminski admitted that Charlton were not at their best in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Swansea City at The Valley.
Charlie Kelman’s first goal for the Addicks put them ahead a matter of seconds into the second period but Adam Idah levelled for the Welsh side.
The post-match pod and talking points went up on this website over the weekend.
“A little disappointed because we expected more from this game,” said Kaminski. “They were better in possession than us.
“The two injuries (to Amari’i Bell and Reece Burke) killed us a little bit, in terms of shape and stuff. We had to adapt to that. These things are always unexpected and it disrupted us.
“But if you look at it then it is a point and we have not lost in four games, so that is a positive. They had a big chance at the end on a second phase, their player (Josh Key) kicks it over. That is why I say it is a good point.
“Momentum is important in the Championship.”
Kaminski was asked about Kelman scoring his first goal for the Addicks but also ending his wait to hit the net in England’s second tier.
“He has been working hard,” said the former Luton Town goalkeeper. “I’m so happy for him and hope he gets going again. The first one is always the most difficult.”
Kaminski’s hopes of a sixth clean sheet of the campaign were ended by Idah, who finished smartly from the edge of the box.
“I need to watch it back - I think it goes through someone’s legs,” said the Belgium-born stopper. “We know both strikers, [Zan] Vipotnik and Idah, touch and strike around the box. We need to be better with that.”
ROSS CAPPED BY WALES
Mia Ross made her debut for Wales on Tuesday night but could not prevent them extending their winless run to 11 matches.
The Charlton Athletic Women’s midfielder started in the 5-2 defeat to Poland in Newport.
Wales have lost their last seven games, their longest streak since the 1990s, when they suffered 12 successive reverses.
Ross played 78 minutes before being replaced by Seattle Reign’s Angharad James-Turner.

STEER WAY TO RETIREMENT
Former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Jed Steer has retired.
The 33-year-old stopper had a spell on loan with the Addicks in the 2018-19 season.
Steer made 20 appearances before an injury to Orjan Nyland saw Aston Villa recall him in the January transfer window.
“It’s been a blast,” posted Steer on X. “Three Wembley final wins, promotion to the Premier League and both achilles ruptured!
“Thank you to the fans and everyone who’s been part of the journey! I have memories that will live with me forever.”
Katie Bradley’s goal was enough to see off Birmingham City

BRADLEY SENDS CHARLTON CLEAR AT TOP
Table-topping Charlton Athletic have opened up a four-point lead in WSL 2 after a 1-0 victory at Birmingham City yesterday.
The top two met at St Andrew’s and Katie Bradley’s seventh-minute goal settled the contest.
Karen Hills’ side are the only team yet to taste defeat in the division, winning five of their seven matches. They are at home to Southampton next on Sunday.
Bradley struck from the edge of the box with a right-footed shot which Blues goalkeeper Lucy Thomas conceded defeat on, not even attempting a dive to keep the ball out.
Charlton boss Hills told the club’s Instagram account: “Coming to Birmingham and doing what we have done is an unbelievable achievement. They have got a fantastic squad.
“We knew we would have to give up possession because they were really dominant on the ball. We had to be really, really good in our defensive mindset today. The girls, in that second half, were outstanding.
“We came here with confidence and knew we had goals in us. Katie Bradley, scoring early on, sets us up nicely. These players don’t turn down those opportunities to keep hold of a lead. I’m so proud of them.
“There were bodies on the line and some of the saves that Sophie [Whitehouse] pulled off were tremendous. The game-changers that came on really pushed and helped us.
“If you look at the possession stats it was probably 80 per cent to them but what an achievement for us to come here and get that win.
“We pride ourselves on being really, really solid at the back. If you keep clean sheets you give yourself an opportunity at the other end.
“We created some opportunities, but not loads. We have to be clinical when we do [create them].
“We have got some really challenging games to come but you’ve got to enjoy these moments when you have worked really hard. Southampton will give us a different challenge but we’ll be ready, for sure.”
LOCK SOLID AS U21 SIDE ENJOY DERBY SUCCESS AGAINST MILLWALL
Charlton’s U21 side capped off a productive week with a 2-2 draw against QPR which extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches.
But the big result came on Tuesday when they defeated Millwall 4-2.
The Lions were the hosts and included first-teamers such as Alfie Doughty, Danny McNamara and Ra’ees Bangura-Williams.
Ibby Fullah scored twice for Charlton with Keenan Gough and Reuben Reid on target for Chris Lock’s side.
Henry Rylah’s 73rd-minute goal restored parity against QPR. Charlton had opened the scoring through Kai Enslin.
The Addicks face Brentford on Tuesday.
Walsall’s tweet on X after Daniel Kanu scored in their FA Cup tie at Eastleigh’s Silverlake Stadium
STRIKERS SCORE IN FA CUP
Current and former Charlton Athletic forwards scored in the FA Cup over the weekend.
Micah Mbick produced another quality finish for Colchester United in their 3-2 home loss to MK Dons.
The 18-year-old put Danny Cowley’s side in front in the 26th minute.
Mbick has five goals and one assist in 11 matches this season.
Daniel Kanu scored Walsall’s second in a 3-0 victory at Eastleigh on Sunday, beating the keeper at his near post with a full-blooded strike.
Kanu is matching Mbick with exactly the same amount of goals and a solitary assist from his 12 games in the 2025-26 campaign.
Lyle Taylor netted twice for Chelmsford City in their 4-1 home win against Braintree Town. Ricky Holmes played 90 minutes in the tie too.
UndrTheCosh podcast posted last week that they were due to sit down with Taylor, who has scored eight goals in the FA Cup this season.
The draw for the second round takes place this evening on TNT Sports.

Sorry Rich but most charlton fans couldn't give a flying fig about what Taylor is doing now- he burnt that bridge.
Great review as always thanks Rich
