'When Reece Burke was fit he was one of the best centre-backs I've ever seen in a Luton Town shirt'
Hatters insight into Charlton Athletic's move for 28-year-old defender who has experienced injury-disrupted career
Charlton Athletic have had Luton Town on speed dial in this summer transfer window.
Reece Burke is the third signing from the Hatters - with South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition first reporting Charlton’s move for him at the weekend - further evidence of the heavy involvement of Nathan Jones in the south London club’s recruitment drive after winning the League One play-offs at the end of May.
The 28-year-old defender joins Thomas Kaminski and Amari’i Bell on the Addicks payroll. He has signed a two-year contract with the club holding an option of extending by another 12 months.
Burke came through the academy ranks at West Ham United before loans to Bradford City, Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers.
He made 15 first-team appearances for the Hammers including featuring in five of their 2015-16 Europa League qualifying matches.

Burke was sold to Hull City for £1.5million in the July 2018 and won the League One title with Grant McCann’s side before joining Luton Town when he became a free agent in July 2021.
A second promotion in his career was sealed with the Bedfordshire club in the 2022-23 season when they won the Championship play-offs, defeating Coventry City 6-5 on penalties.
South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition once again caught up with Lewis Williams from the We Are Luton Town website to learn more about Burke.
