Charlton Athletic academy manager Tom Pell is joining Tottenham Hotspur as head of their academy operations.
The Addicks recently announced that Pell will be leaving in December for a Premier League club - but did not name them.
Former Charlton academy director Steve Avory, who is still in an advisory role, is helping with their search for his successor.
Pell’s new position is set to be the one directly below Spurs’ academy manager Simon Davies.
Pell was appointed to his current role at Charlton in May 2022. Prior to that he had spent 16 years at Cambridge United.
Pell appeared on Marvee Woods Football Academy Podcast on YouTube recently.
He talked about being on the books of Peterborough United from the age of eight until he was 16.
Pell said: “I was fortunate to work with some fantastic coaches. Some of the coaches I had were Dan Ashworth, who has gone back to the FA as technical director, Luke Hobbs, who is head of coaching at Arsenal, and John Morling, who spent a lot of time at Brighton as academy manager and is now a technical director in Hong Kong.
“I took quite a lot from my experiences as a player when I started my coaching career at 17.
“I’m under pressure to get results (at Charlton). That isn’t necessarily our U18s or U21s winning a league or cup, the results I’m under pressure for is to get players in our first team or that we can sell to the highest levels of the game once they have been in our first team.
“It’s quite a long-term player development journey.”
You know what… fair play. This happens when you’re doing well
Yes it does - unfortunately for Charlton. Is not the game slanted against the lower division clubs developing players in that ‘bigger’ clubs ‘nick’ lower clubs’ academy stars for pittances?
The whole of football is run on ‘capitalism except that aspect?
