Nathan Jones felt there were multiple factors behind Charlton Athletic’s 1-0 loss to Norwich City today.

The Addicks boss was left unhappy at the manner of the winning goal, scored in the fifth minute by Danish midfielder Pelle Mattsson.

But Jones also rued the lack of end product from his Addicks side, who have not netted more than once in a home Championship match in their last 14 fixtures in SE7. Charlton have scored 11 times in those 14 games.

Jones was also deeply unhappy at the performance of referee Will Finnie. The official ignored appeals in the second period when Lloyd Jones had his arm pulled by Ruairi McConville inside the penalty area.

Below is pretty much every word that the Addicks boss had to say in his post-match press conference.

A narrow defeat today, how did you see it?

Jones: “We have to defend the goal better - because it is a themed goal. We have conceded from the edge of the box by trying to be too safe and dropping in too much.

“In the debrief we show them everything in a tactical video on Norwich. That (Mattsson’s goal) is really disappointing.

“Then we have enough situations around the final third to have created more than we did. We lacked quality and that bit of composure. We hit the bar. We have so many opportunities to cross and to punish…but we don’t. That is our learning curve. We are in a really tough league so we have to get better - whether that is more work or different personnel.

“There are some unacceptable decisions in the game.

“Last week a poor refereeing decision, in my opinion but also the video evidence’s opinion as well as the assessor’s opinion, cost us (for Oxford United’s penalty). I have no doubt in my mind that once again we will get another apology for a baffling decision.
