In more ways than one.
Not only did Charlton Athletic’s 2-0 defeat at Preston North End halt their four-match unbeaten run in the Championship, but even getting to Deepdale in the first place meant enduring plenty of challenges.
The trains can be a pain at the best of times. So when you factor in Storm Amy - and a yellow warning for winds - it made getting to the match a real test.
I’m sure plenty of those who chose to travel by rail experienced a lot of issues. There were posts on social media about fans turning back or simply opting not to leave home.
My direct train from London Euston to Preston was cancelled. I then took one to Manchester Picadilly before getting on a carriage where it felt like it was a attempt to get in the Guinness World Records for a game of sardines. Deeply unpleasant.
