RANKIN-COSTELLO IS A MODEL PRO

Why did Joe Rankin-Costello have to wait so long to start in Charlton Athletic’s midfield? It was a question that even left a lengthy pause from manager Nathan Jones after his excellent display in yesterday’s 1-1 draw against Coventry City.

“Sometimes you go with what you trust and know,” said Jones.

It was interesting to hear Rankin-Costello’s response when asked if he had been questioning the Welsh boss about his lack of opportunity.

“I’ve not really done that. I’ve just kept going in training and waited for my chance. I don’t really like knocking on the door of a manager, because it is his decision, at the end of the day. I’ll just train well and hope that he picks me.
