HOW COSTLY WILL THIS RESULT BE?

No one match makes or breaks a season, and that certainly applies to Charlton Athletic’s 2-2 draw at Blackburn Rovers at a snow-dusted Ewood Park. But, equally, it could easily be one of those ‘if only’ moments when it comes to dissecting this Championship campaign at the start of May.

There is no getting away from the fact that the Addicks had a glorious chance to turn down the drop fight heat on a frigid afternoon in Lancashire.

With 34 minutes on the clock, things were looking decidedly promising. Charlie Kelman had just calmly converted from the penalty spot to put the Addicks 2-0 ahead, Lloyd Jones going down in exaggerated fashion after his right arm was grabbed by Sean McLoughlin.

Blackburn - victims of a heavy injury list with the likes of Ryan Hedges, Andri Gudjohnsen, Ryoya Morishita and Adam Forshaw unavailable - looked there for the taking. Rovers had handed a first start to Tom Atcheson, who had been on loan at National League North side Marine. Squad shortages had forced the hosts to recall Atcheson and George Pratt, previously out gaining experience at Chorley.
