Nathan Jones is adamant he will make “ruthless decisions” on his Charlton Athletic squad this summer - and has vowed they will be competing higher up the table next season.

The Addicks signed off their 2025-26 Championship campaign with a 3-1 reverse at Swansea City yesterday.

The result means that the 2025 League One play-off winners finished 19th in the table.

Charlton came into the match in South Wales on the back of a seven-match unbeaten away run, last tasting defeat on their travels at Millwall on January 24.

But they won just one of their final nine Championship fixtures, taking six points from a possible 27.

Substitute Miles Leaburn had cancelled out Adam Idah’s opening goal with a bullet header from Sonny Carey’s 79th-minute corner. The striker, 22, has gone 26 league matches without getting on the scoresheet.

But Idah, who scored for Swansea at The Valley in the reverse fixture, quickly put the hosts back ahead with a shot that deflected off Macaulay Gillesphey and past Thomas Kaminski. Ipswich loanee Harry Clarke had lost the ball in what looked like a promising attack for Charlton and they were punished on the transition.

Leo Walta ended any debate about the outcome in the 88th minute with an excellent free-kick which went in off the right post.

Below is pretty much every word that Nathan Jones had to say after the match.
