Nathan Jones has praised Charlton Athletic’s ownership group Global Football Partners after being asked for his thoughts on them trying to seek out fresh investment.

The Addicks’ non-executive director Gavin Carter exclusively spoke to South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition on Tuesday after The Guardian newspaper reported that the club’s American backers - Gabriel Brener and Joshua Friedman are the major shareholders - were looking to sell.

Carter told us that “having additional investment into the football club is what will be required for us to continue to progress as a football club.

“It is no different than what every other Championship and Premier League football club is looking to do - to attract additional investment, particularly from a position of strength when things are going well and you are on plan.”

GFP were at the helm when Jones was appointed in February 2024.

The Welshman signed an improved five-year contract in June 2025 after leading Charlton to promotion via the League One play-offs.

South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition asked Jones about GFP’s desire to find new backers.

“I have a really good relationship with the ownership group and the thing is that the Championship is a mini Premier League now,” he said. “The type of finance in the Championship now, used to be what the Premier League was about. Now the Premier League has gone on to another stratosphere, in terms of stuff.
