Last week in review for Charlton Athletic
Former Charlton player and coach lands Championship role, Addicks appoint new chief executive and former loanees sign fresh deals
Unfortunately not anything in the way of confirmed transfer window activity in SE7, but Charlton Athletic did fill their chief executive vacancy. There was also news about a number of ex-Addicks players, including some loanees resolving their futures.

EUELL DO FOR PNE
Former Charlton Athletic player and coach Jason Euell has joined Preston North End’s coaching staff.
The 48-year-old, from Lambeth, had two playing spells with the Addicks and remains their club record signing - he arrived from Wimbledon in July 2001 for £4.75million.
Euell, who scored 38 goals in 170 matches for the south London club, started coaching in Charlton’s academy before his appointment as first-team coach in April 2021. He became assistant boss later that year and stayed in that role during the managerial stints of Johnnie Jackson and Nigel Adkins.
He made the move to be number two to Nigel Pearson at Bristol City in June 2022.
Euell’s most recent post was assistant head coach at Cambridge United but he left that position at the end of last season.
Preston recently announced the signing of Charlton wing-back Thierry Small, who had turned down a new contract. He has agreed a four-year contract with the Deepdale outfit.
MURPHY LANDS ADDICKS CEO ROLE
Charlton have announced American Dane Murphy is set to be their new chief executive.
The move is subject to EFL approval, but that is expected to be a formality.
Murphy held the same position at Nottingham Forest when they won promotion to the Premier League, leaving in January 2023. Prior to that he had a two-year stay with Barnsley, also in the CEO role.
The 39-year-old, born in Connecticut, is a former midfielder who started on the books of DC United. He had a spell in the second tier of the Bundesliga before ending up at New York Cosmos.
After retiring in 2015 he took on a scouting role for Cosmos before accepting an offer to become technical director at Real Salt Lake in the MLS.
Charlton chairman Gavin Carter told the club’s website: “Dane is an ambitious, dynamic, and forward-thinking leader with experience at the top level of the game. He understands what it takes to create a high-performance culture and deliver results. His work at Nottingham Forest and Barnsley demonstrated a clear ability to elevate clubs and drive them forward.”
Murphy is a shareholder in Vitesse Arnhem.
They announced that he would be resigning from his position on their supervisory board with immediate effect.
“Discussions are taking place about Murphy's shareholding,” said Vitesse in a statement on their website. “In the interest of transparency, the KNVB has already been informed of the decision.
”Vitesse, the Sterkhouders and its shareholders are seizing this opportunity to critically review the composition and structure of the so-called 'RvC'. The club expects to be able to present a full-fledged board of three members in the short term.”
HANLAN JOINS DONCASTER
Former Charlton striker Brandon Hanlan has signed for Doncaster Rovers.
The 28-year-old will make the move from Wycombe Wanderers once his contract expires.
Hanlan, who ended last season on loan at Stevenage, will pen a two-year contract.
The Chelsea-born forward joined Charlton’s academy in 2012 and collected 15 first-team appearances, all of them in the 2016-17 season.

CAMPBELL MAKES STEVENAGE SWITCH
One-time Addicks loanee Chem Campbell will be plying his trade in League One next season after agreeing a deal to join Stevenage.
The 22-year-old scored twice and made 16 appearances for Charlton on loan from Wolves. He arrived on a season-long loan at the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
Campbell had a more productive temporary stay at Reading last season, featuring 42 times and netting seven goals.
NEW DEAL FOR KAIKAI
Speaking of former loan signings at The Valley, Sullay Kaikai has penned a new two-year contract at Cambridge United.
The U’s are gearing up for life in League Two after their relegation.
Charlton snapped up Kaikai in January 2018. He featured 15 times but produced just one assist.
Cambridge boss Neil Harris said: "When he is fit and firing, he will be an absolute handful for defenders in League Two.”
FIELD OF DREAMS
Sam Field, who also had a loan with Charlton Athletic in the 2019-20 season while with West Bromwich Albion, has signed a deal extension at QPR.
The 27-year-old played 18 times for the Addicks with injuries restricting his availability.
“I want to step into more of a leadership role, which I think I'm doing, and I'm enjoying that," Field told QPR’s website. “I think I've progressed a lot - I've still got a hell of a lot to work on, I'm not going to deny that, but it excites me what I've done, and it excites me what I can hopefully go on to achieve.”
SEASON TICKET SALES ON THE RISE
Charlton Athletic have announced that more than 10,000 season tickets have been snapped up ahead of their return to the Championship.
The Addicks added that Nathan Jones’ League One play-off winners “are expected to be backed by the club’s highest number of season-ticket holders in more than a decade”.
Charlton had the fourth highest average attendance in England’s third tier in the last campaign - 15,255. It was only bettered by Birmingham City (26,717), Bolton Wanderers (21,325) and Huddersfield Town (18, 815).
Charlton are opening a pop-up store in Bluewater this summer. The unit will be situated in the Upper Rose Gallery and next to Starbucks (shame it isn’t Costa Coffee) with the opening date still to be confirmed. It’s unclear at this point if any Addicks supporters will need the written consent of Nathan Jones to make a trip. High-fiving rules set to be in the small print.
MaxAmaze are the new back-of-short partner for the men’s first-team next season.
MaxAmaze will be installing what is decribed as “state-of-the-art” and “energy-efficient” floodlights at The Valley as part of the agreement.
great start to club news
Hopefully a lot more will happen this week, so next week's review will be about current rather ex players.
