Charlton Athletic made a post-midnight announcement to confirm the arrival of Oliver Skipp on a season-long loan.

The 25-year-old midfielder, capped 24 times at U21 level by England, was cleared to make the switch to SE7 by Leicester City.

The Foxes confirmed the free transfer arrival of John Lundstram towards the end of deadline day from Trabzonspor to bolster their own options in the middle of the park.

Charlton’s move for Skipp, whose contract with Leicester runs until 2029, takes the number of new faces to 11 for the summer transfer window, which is now closed.

Skipp’s last action for Leicester City saw him sent off in the 30th minute of a 2-1 loss to Burton Albion on August 22.

He failed to pull out of a high challenge on Curtis Tilt and was shown a straight red card.

Skipp had started the opening three matches of the season for the Foxes.

He signed for Leicester in August 2024 on a five-year deal with the transfer fee reported to be in excess of £20million.

Prior to that Skipp had come through the junior age groups at Tottenham, making his debut in an EFL Cup tie against West Ham United when he was only 16.

Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho had the following to say about the player in July 2020: “He’s genuinely Tottenham’s future. He’s one of these players by human quality, by personality, he is one of these kids that I have no doubt he will be an important player for Tottenham. Sometimes coaches are selfish and I told him that.
