RICK EVERITT has been a Charlton Athletic supporter for 57 years and was the editor of Voice of the Valley fanzine between 1988 and 2002. Here he reflects on the 2025-26 Championship season for the Addicks.


As the 2,000 travelling Charlton fans funnelled their way slowly out of Portman Road late on a Tuesday evening in October, an unexpected chant that captured the moment rang out from the back of the away end.

“Crystal Palace, we’re coming for you!”

The tongues that took it up were firmly in their cheeks. Addicks fans are well aware of the chasm that has opened up between these south-east London neighbours over the last decade. But it spoke to the happy mood, as finally a better future for Charlton seemed possible at last.
