Addicks have secured key man on terms until 2028

Defensive rock Lloyd Jones has signed a new contract at Charlton Athletic until the summer of 2028.

The Addicks have rewarded the centre-back for an excellent season in the Championship where he was top for defensive blocks and clearances.

Jones, who has won back-to-back Player of the Year awards at Charlton, was just pipped by Millwall’s Jake Cooper for aerial duels won.

The former Liverpool, Luton Town, Northampton Town and Cambridge United player featured in all 46 league matches for the Addicks - 45 of those starts.

But Jones, signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, has revealed to South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition that he played more than three months of the campaign with a busted up ankle.

It was a fairly regular sight to see Charlton’s vice-captain receiving treatment during matches. He came off in the 35th minute at West Bromwich Albion in February, an eighth successive start since suffering the injury against Sheffield United at The Valley.

Now Jones has lifted the lid on risking greater damage by putting playing ahead of a period of recuperation.
