'I can still have an impact at this level' - Matty Godden on his new Charlton Athletic contract and how Nathan Jones eased any future fears following leg fracture
Striker broke his fibula just moments after coming on as a second-half substitute against Ipswich Town
Matty Godden has revealed how Nathan Jones put his mind at rest about a new contract at Charlton Athletic - with the experienced goal-grabber suffering a broken leg in the 2-1 loss against Ipswich Town in late April.
The Addicks have announced that the forward, who turns 35 at the end of next month, has signed to stay in SE7 for a further 12 months.
Godden had been due to be out of contract at the start of July.

The former Coventry City, Stevenage and Peterborough player broke the fibula in his right leg against the Tractor Boys, almost instantly after coming on in the 78th minute at The Valley.
“I came on in the Ipswich game and it happened in my first action,” Godden told South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition. “I was expecting the contact because I had a defender up my back. I needed to shield the ball from my right, I could see their midfielder coming in that side.
“I knew I could do with getting my body between him and the ball - that he would take me down and I’d win the foul. I did that. But my leg was in a position where his knee went straight into the side of it, in a specific spot.
