Nathan Asiimwe has every reason to believe his football career is in a promising place at the moment.

The 20-year-old signed a new contract with Charlton Athletic, extending his stay in SE7 until at least the summer of 2027, before he headed out on a season-long loan to AFC Wimbledon at the end of July.

And life with the Dons has started very, very well.

Asiimwe won plaudits in their loss to Luton Town on the opening day of the League One season - Ryan Johnson’s unfortunate own goal settling the contest at Kenilworth Road.

But since then the right-sided wing-back has scored his first goal at senior level, a smart turn and finish from 10 yards out, in the Dons’ 2-0 home victory over Lincoln City, a result which saw the Plough Lane club bank their first points since promotion to League One in May.

And Asiimwe also provided an assist in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Reading. His cross was headed home by striker Matty Stevens.

Prior to tonight’s fixture against Cardiff City, Asiimwe is top of the Wimbledon charts for most tackles and successful dribbles, second for shots per game and third for key passes. He has the highest average rating of any Dons player on two of the main stats sites - FotMob (7.72) and WhoScored (7.78).
