Nathan Jones has described the decision to terminate Greg Docherty’s contract as “heartbreaking”.
The Addicks announced yesterday that the Scot was now a free agent after a mutual agreement to end his stay.
Docherty, who had been club captain, was due to be out of contract at the end of June.

The 28-year-old midfielder scored five goals in 90 matches for Charlton. He signed from Hull City in the summer of 2024 and was part of the side which won the League One play-offs in his first campaign in SE7.
Docherty’s only appearance this season had been a start in the 5-1 EFL Cup loss to Tottenham.
Charlton are only able to register 25 players over the age of 21 in their squad as part of EFL rules. They were on 28 but Docherty has now gone and centre-back Collins Sichenje looks set to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Jones spoke to South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition after Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at West Brom about Docherty’s departure.
