Lloyd Jones has insisted that Charlton Athletic’s players are still totally united despite the team’s 11-match run without a victory.
The Addicks are 21st in the Championship table ahead of tomorrow’s home game against Sheffield United.
Chris Wilder’s Blades are unbeaten in their last four matches, winning three of them.
Charlton’s last victory was August 29 with their two home wins in the opening month coming against the lowest-placed clubs in the division, Preston North End (24th) and Derby County (23rd).
It means that Charlton fans have watched their team for more than 16 hours without a three-point return.
Few could have predicted the current scenario at the end of August. The Addicks were top of the pile with a 100 per cent record in the league, including a 2-1 victory at promotion favourites West Ham United.
“It’s definitely taken us by surprise,” said Jones, when asked about the dramatic shift in fortunes. “To win the first three games, everyone was on a high. But that is football, at the end of the day, it can knock the stuffing out of you when you least expect it.
