Charlton Athletic's new non-exec director was a key transfer negotiator for Arsenal that did high-profile deals for Mesut Ozil, Petr Cech and Alexandre Lacazette
Richard Law appointed as Addicks look to lean on his 'wealth of experience'
“People seem to think I know something about the game. It’s been nice to have phone calls from people either looking for advice or, from time to time, doing consultancy for a club - kind of helping them work their way through whatever problems they’re facing.”
That was Richard Law, who joined Charlton Athletic as a non-executive director yesterday afternoon, talking to Inside Arsenal - with Charles Watts, in August 2025.
The American worked closely with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger and vice-chairman David Dein, taking on a role in 2005 that eventually expanded to ‘head of football operations’ before he stepped down in February 2018.

Amongst the players signed during Law’s employment by the north London giants included Mesut Ozil, Petr Cech, Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
He was also involved in direct negotiations with Charlton when Carl Jenkinson made a £1million transfer to Arsenal in June 2011.
