Charlton Athletic learn lessons in Southampton rematch - if they can follow up gritty draw with a win at West Brom on Tuesday it will put them on brink of Championship safety

Once bitten, twice shy.
To be correct, Charlton Athletic were bitten five times in the space of 29 minutes when they faced Southampton in November.
It was a harsh lesson in what can happen if a side presses too aggressively against one of the most technically accomplished teams in the Championship.
On Saturday, Nathan Jones got the Addicks’ structure and tactics right. The reward was a point on his first return to St Mary’s Stadium since he was handed his P45 by the then Premier League club in February 2023.
What’s interesting, well at least to me, is that Southampton had the same amount of total shots (23) and attempts on target (eight) as they did in the match in SE7.
