Nathan Jones talked in positive terms about the prospect of securing Tyreece Campbell on a new contract after the attacker scored the all important goal to clinch Charlton Athletic’s 2-1 victory over Derby County today.
The Jamaican international finished in the 80th minute at The Valley.
Lloyd Jones headed the equaliser earlier in the second half to wipe out the lead handed to the visitors by Sammie Szmodics.

Campbell is only one goal shy of his total tally for the 2025-26 campaign. He is due to be out of contract at the end of June and had attracted interest from Preston North End.
“I speak to TC on a daily basis - TC wants to sign a contract here,” said Jones. “We have spoken about it and we are in really advanced negotiations. Let’s hope we have some news on that. We are hoping we can get that done.
“We have fought off bids from clubs for a number of our players. And a number of players we were exposed on we have managed to shut the door on that and curtail that. We’re hoping to continue to do that with others.
“We know what we have got to do. These are players we are developing. When we came in TC was a League One player, in and out (of the team). He was a big part of us getting promoted.
