I’d love to have a chat with Gabriel Brener or Josh Friedman but they haven’t done any media anywhere since they bought the club. At time that GFP completed the deal for CAFC the messaging was that they would stay in the background and wouldn’t be available for press interviews.
The fact that they’ve tried before and have now decided to go through a different organisation suggests that there isn’t much interest. It’s like changing estate agents because you’ve had no offers for six months. The fact that we don’t own the Valley can’t be helping.
That’s pretty much where I am on it. Most damaging thing for a sale or big investment, at least in my eyes, is that the stadium and training ground are still under Duchatelet. Sandgaard did a bad deal and obviously the whoppers that were ESI let the genie out the bottle with the initial agreement - no wonder they accepted those terms when they ended up having no money!
I don't want to sound like a sceptic, but is there any chance that the Consultancy supporting the bid has tactically released something to the Press so that it spikes interest and lets potential investors know that Charlton are serious about onboarding new investors?
I don't buy that the Guardian by random chance got access to the latest venture slide deck.
Yeah, hard to know VFF. A journalist never reveals their source (or at least they shouldn’t), so I think we can only speculate on that without ever getting to the truth of how it entered the public domain.
Very worried because of what’s happened in the past. I’m confused because just a matter of weeks ago, Carter had said we’d be incrementally increasing our budget to get to be mid- table, yet now they want to sell? Do you get the sense Nathan has been worried by this in pre season Rich?
Perhaps the current owners just want more investment like previously reported with slide decks (20mil for 20%) and the slide decks documents got leaked to the guardian..
Judging from previous regimes there are always people claiming to have money that want to invest into football clubs, but them being bona fide can be the challenging part.

I don’t think it was anything to do with that. I don’t quite see why we couldn’t attend the game - it seemed to be a directive on the safety side - but as much as I’m a cynical old journo I don’t believe this played into it at all.
I mainly say that Rich due to the number of observers in the directors box and there were small groups at either end of the West Lower.
On the plus side for your substack at least there will be lots to discuss on the pod with Louis. Also maybe a new chapter for Mr Varney could be in the future!

This being announced does make the ‘no press’ stance on Saturday look a bit more deliberate now imo.
