Charlton Athletic chairman Gavin Carter has described Charlton Athletic as being “on top of everything” when it comes to contract negotiations.

The Addicks have a number of players whose terms expire in the summer but they have club options on extending Tyreece Campbell, Luke Berry and Matty Godden by a further 12 months.

Only Lyndon Dykes, who signed on a short-term deal from Birmingham City in the winter transfer window, will be a free agent. Loanees Harry Clarke and Luke Chambers will return to Ipswich Town and Liverpool respectively.

There will be more of the Charlton squad heading into the final 12 months of their terms after this summer and that includes vice-captain Lloyd Jones, Conor Coventry, Kayne Ramsay and Amari’i Bell. Reece Burke, Greg Docherty and Macaulay Gillesphey all have options on their deals, which are due to expire in the summer of 2027.

Charlton lost the likes of George Dobson and Thierry Small in recent close seasons.

In the case of Small, the club exercised their option to extend his deal by a year ahead of last season’s League One play-off winning campaign but he joined Preston North End in July. Compensation was agreed rather than the two clubs going to a tribunal.

“When we first became involved in the football club, there wasn’t a squad plan or a lot of forward thinking,” Carter told South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition. “There were a lot of players coming out of contract and academy players weren’t signed up. It was a mess, basically.
