Nathan Jones described some of Charlton Athletic’s attacking play as “electric” in their 3-1 victory at Cheltenham Town on Saturday night.
The Addicks had pretty much made sure of their place in the EFL Cup second round at the halfway point of their tie against League Two opposition.
Charlton scored three times in the space of 15 minutes.
Matty Godden curled the south Londoners ahead on 22 minutes and almost instantly it became 2-0 when Sonny Carey finished from Nathaniel Chalobah’s deft pass.
Tyreece Campbell, who has been the subject of transfer interest from Preston North End, found the same corner of the Cheltenham net in the 37th minute. The Jamaican international also struck the crossbar before the interval as Charlton broke time and again on the hosts.
“We were excellent,” Addicks boss Jones told this website. “We had probably a five or 10-minute spell in the second half where we went sloppy, but in the first half we were electric, at times. We moved the ball really well. When we won it back and moved through the thirds, we were really quick.
“It probably should’ve been more at half-time. We were three-up, which you would have taken all day long, but it should have been four or five.
“We have created really good chances and situations. When we counter we do a thing called ‘finishing the action’. We did that today. Chalobah’s ball for Sonny Carey’s goal is outstanding - it’s top end.
