Nathan Jones has discussed the importance of set-piece goals after his Charlton Athletic side’s last two 1-0 wins came from long throws.

In midweek it was Conor Coady who steered home Harry Clarke’s delivery to secure victory at Middlesbrough.

And the Addicks also scored from a similar position to see off Birmingham City at The Valley last weekend, Charlie Kelman converted after Sonny Carey’s throw was flicked on at the near post by Lyndon Dykes.

According to stats site WhoScored.com, Charlton are joint sixth for goals scored from set-pieces in the Championship with 14. Tomorrow’s opponents Oxford United have bagged 16 in that fashion with Coventry leading the way on 23. Next after the table-topping Sky Blues are Millwall (18) with Southampton and Derby tied on 18.

“It is a separate entity now,” Jones told South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition. “Before your manager or coach used to supplement them or put them into a training session. They used to just be a part of that session.
