Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones on Nathaniel Chalobah triallist appearance and media reports of improved offer being made to Lyndon Dykes

Former Chelsea, Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder played an hour in tonight's friendly at Colchester United

Nathan Jones has talked to South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition about Nathaniel Chalobah’s appearance in tonight’s 2-0 friendly win at Colchester United.

The Addicks showed far greater urgency and attacking threat compared to Saturday’s 2-0 loss at AFC Wimbledon. They led by that scoreline by the halfway stage at the JobServe Community Stadium with two quick-fire goals.

Matty Godden, wearing the captain’s armband, volleyed home first time from Billy Koumetio’s excellent cross in the 22nd minute.

And Karlan Grant, making his first appearance since rejoining Charlton from West Brom, finished from the left of the penalty area after neat interplay with Harvey Knibbs.

Chalobah, a free agent after leaving Sheffield Wednesday, started for the Addicks in the fixture and played a holding midfield role. The former Chelsea player, 31, has also had permanent moves to Fulham, Watford and West Bromwich Albion.

Chalobah was replaced in the 65th minute.
