Nathan Jones has described new signing Timothy Ouma as “a fantastic athlete” and confirmed the Kenyan midfielder has been on Charlton Athletic’s recruitment list for an extended period of time.

The Addicks signed the 22-year-old on loan earlier this week with an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.

Jones has added to his midfield options in the summer transfer window with Nathaniel Chalobah, a free agent after leaving Sheffield Wednesday, landing a 12-month contract after impressing on trial.

Now the powerful Ouma, who spent last season on loan at Polish champions Lech Poznan, has been added to the mix in the middle of the park.

“We have monitored him and flagged him up,” said Jones, asked about the scouting process. “There is lots of stuff that will flag him up. There will be data that will flag him up. There will be live reports when we have watched these games and he has stood out.

“He is someone we’ve had on our list for a long time. When it became clear he fitted within our resources and our budget then we went after it very, very aggressively - we were able to get him.
