The Addicks announced yesterday that the Scot was now a free agent after a mutual agreement to end his stay.

Docherty, who had been club captain, was due to be out of contract at the end of June.

The 28-year-old midfielder scored five goals in 90 matches for Charlton. He signed from Hull City in the summer of 2024 and was part of the side which won the League One play-offs in his first campaign in SE7.

Docherty’s only appearance this season had been a start in the 5-1 EFL Cup loss to Tottenham.

Charlton are only able to register 25 players over the age of 21 in their squad as part of EFL rules. They were on 28 but Docherty has now gone and centre-back Collins Sichenje looks set to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

I’m going to score players after each match which will go towards a final rating that I’ll publish at the end of the 2026-27 Championship season.

It won’t be a surprise to anyone that there are some decent scores for August. Charlton have made a perfect start to the league campaign - three straight victories for the first time since 1992 - along with that comfortable EFL Cup win at Cheltenham. The only negative was a 5-1 loss to Tottenham last week when Nathan Jones made 10 changes.

Players need to have played at least 90 minutes of football in a month to get a rating.

ARTHUR OKONKWO - 7

A strong start from the Wrexham loanee. West Ham away for your debut - in front of a crowd of 62,264 - is a test of character. Okonkwo made one fine save - tipping over Divine Mukasa’s shot in the second half. He had very little to do in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Preston North End to record his 11th clean sheet in 41 Championship appearances. He has conceded once from an xGOT (expected goals on target) of 2.2.

WILL MANNION - 6

Nervy in the opening match, the EFL Cup tie at Whaddon Road, and was rooted to his line for an inswinging corner that was headed home by Liam Sercombe. One of his strengths previously had been coming for crosses and balls into the box but maybe his costly mistake at Sheffield Wednesday last season has dented his confidence.

The 25-year-old midfielder, capped 24 times at U21 level by England, was cleared to make the switch to SE7 by Leicester City.

The Foxes confirmed the free transfer arrival of John Lundstram towards the end of deadline day from Trabzonspor to bolster their own options in the middle of the park.

Charlton’s move for Skipp, whose contract with Leicester runs until 2029, takes the number of new faces to 11 for the summer transfer window, which is now closed.

Skipp’s last action for Leicester City saw him sent off in the 30th minute of a 2-1 loss to Burton Albion on August 22.

He failed to pull out of a high challenge on Curtis Tilt and was shown a straight red card.

Skipp had started the opening three matches of the season for the Foxes.

He signed for Leicester in August 2024 on a five-year deal with the transfer fee reported to be in excess of £20million.

Prior to that Skipp had come through the junior age groups at Tottenham, making his debut in an EFL Cup tie against West Ham United when he was only 16.

The Addicks confirmed this afternoon that the 19-year-old, born in Lewisham, had extended his deal until the summer of 2029.

Fullah has scored twice in 14 first-team appearances for Charlton but had not been in their matchday squad for any of their fixtures this season.

MK Dons have drawn all three of their League One matches. It is their first campaign back at the level after winning promotion in April. They head to Wycombe tomorrow.

Fullah has never had a loan move prior to this one. He made his senior debut for Charlton in May 2025, coming on as a substitute in a 3-1 win over Burton Albion. He started and scored in their EFL Cup ties against Stevenage and Cambridge United last season.

His two starts in the Championship last season came at Wrexham and Birmingham City.

“It’s a pleasure to sign a new deal with my boyhood club,” Fullah told Charlton’s official website. “It’s another step in the right direction and I just can’t wait to kick on.

Addicks boss Nathan Jones added: “Ibby is an excellent young player who we’re confident has a very bright future ahead of him, and we’re delighted that he has signed a new contract with the club.

“He’s now at an important stage of his development where regular playing time is crucial, and this loan will give him the opportunity to get that at a good club, where the style of football should suit his game.

“We’ll be keeping a close eye on his progress throughout the season and hopefully he’ll return to us having had a really productive and positive experience.”

MK sporting director Liam Sweeting said: “We’re really pleased to bring Ibby to MK Dons. He is a young player who has already gained valuable experience at Championship level, and his progression at Charlton, including being named their Young Player of the Year last season, demonstrates the potential he has.

“Ibby is an exciting attacking player who can play in a number of positions and has shown a real ability to carry the ball, play forward, create opportunities and threaten the goal. At 19, there is still a lot of development to come, but he already has experience of senior football and we believe he can make a positive contribution to our group.

“The key for Ibrahim now is to get exposure to regular first-team football and continue his development in a competitive environment. We believe MK Dons and the group we have here provide a really good environment for him to do that, and we’re looking forward to supporting him throughout the season.

“We’d also like to thank Charlton for their cooperation in getting the deal done.”

Charlton have also sanctioned Nathan Asiimwe joining Salford City on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old right-back spent the previous campaign with AFC Wimbledon, featuring 42 times in all competitions.

Asiimwe started in the Addicks’ 5-1 EFL Cup loss to Tottenham last week.

“I’ve had to be patient but now I’m here, I’m buzzing to get going, excited to be involved in what the plans are for the future,” he told Salford’s official website.

“I’d describe myself as hard-working. I’ll give my all for the badge and get up and down the wings. I like to one-v-one defend and help out in both boxes. When I get in the final third I try and take my man on, get my cross in, get some assists and try to get a goal or two.

“For me it’s more than just development, I’m looking further than that and hopefully if I can help the team achieve its goal this season, who knows what the future can bring?”

Nkeng, born in Barcelona, has scored two goals in 34 matches for the AFC Wimbledon. He came on as a second-half substitute against Charlton in the pre-season friendly at Plough Lane.

Nkeng has not featured heavily for the Dons in the current campaign due to speculation over his future.

Nottingham Forest and Lecce are believed to have weighed up moves for the teenager, who was thought to be available for less than seven figures.

Charlton are top of the Championship

We might have mentioned that just a few times on yesterday’s pod following the 1-0 win against Preston North End at The Valley.

Karlan Grant’s second-half goal - opening his account for the Addicks since his return in July - left Nathan Jones’ side two points clear at the Championship summit.

I thought that I’d have a look at who was top at the same stage of last season. It was Stoke City who, along with Middlesbrough, had won all three games, just like Charlton in the current campaign.

Stoke ended up finishing 17th. Eventual champions Coventry were third after three matches last season with Ipswich Town, who took the second automatic promotion place, down in 18th.

Charlton now face back-to-back away matches at West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday night followed by a lunchtime kick-off at Stoke City on Saturday.

Former Addicks centre-back Ezri Konsa was at The Valley yesterday to watch his former team-mate Grant. Grant ran towards the Alan Curbishley Stand, Konsa was in one of the executive boxes on that side, to celebrate.

“It was a great win,” said Grant, who has scored 59 goals in 252 Championship outings. “Three [wins] from three, we’re just delighted.

“You are always chomping at the bit to get that first goal, so I’m glad I got it so early on. I’m grateful to be able to help the team. We take each game as it comes, I know how difficult this division is. It’s a good start.

“We’ve got a good squad and a great academy, you can see that with young Alan (Mwamba) coming on - unbelievable talent. We have fire, grit and determination - the manager has instilled that. It’s a great group to be part of. Nobody gets above their station.

“It will be nice to see some old faces (at The Hawthorns) but ultimately I’m going there to win the game.”

Charlton have exceeded their xG (1.59) by scoring four times - the best overperformance in the Championship.

From City Ground to the city

Tyler Bindon’s latest loan stop is London. South-East London, to be exact.

Charlton Athletic announced on Sunday that the 21-year-old centre-back had signed on a season-long loan.

Bindon, capped 28 times by New Zealand, has a contract with Nottingham Forest until 2028. He was part of Oliver Glasner’s squad in pre-season but has not featured in any of their competitive matches.

“It’s a privilege to be here and I’m excited to get started,” Bindon told Charlton’s official website. “The way the gaffer talked aligned with what I want to do and I like the vision of the club. Hopefully I can be a part of that in a positive way.”

Campbell scoring gesture has special significance

Tyreece Campbell has provided some explanation to his goal celebration - which can be seen above.

The 22-year-old winger, who recently signed a new contract until 2030 with the Addicks, has netted three times this season.

Campbell says that the celebration is one also done by his other friends who are playing - Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and former Fulham defender Idris Odutayo, who joined Dundee in July.

The Jamaican international - asked if he has a goals or assists target for the campaign - told South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition: “Yeah, it’s a personal one that I wrote down in my room. I’m keeping it private.

“You can help the team in other ways, even if you don’t score, but it is definitely important (to score). I don’t know why (it’s been a prolific start to the season), I’ve just been working hard.”

Campbell agreed with Nathan Jones’ assertion that the fact he is now playing in his favoured wide role, he had spells at wing-back last season, had helped in getting contract talks over the line.

Asked what other factors came into play, Campbell said: “The manager, how he plays. I think he trusts me and I trust him to develop my career, to take the next step.”

Kaminski heads to Cyprus

Thomas Kaminski signed for Apoel Omonia on Friday afternoon.

The season-long loan move also has triggers in the deal which can make it an obligation to buy for the Cypriot club.

Charlton paid an undisclosed fee for Kaminski last summer when he moved on from Luton Town, following back-to-back relegations. He is contracted to the Addicks until 2028.

Loan lined up for teenage prospect Tiitinen

Charlton are set to take Finnish teenager Otto Tiitinen on loan from Ilves.

The 18-year-old midfielder is an academy signing for the Addicks and there is set to be an option for the move to become permanent.

Tiitinen has been capped by his country at U15, U16 and U17 level. He signed a three-year professional deal at Ilves in January 2025 and made his league debut at the age of 16, producing an assist and scoring the clinching goal in a 3-2 victory over HJK Helsinki in April 2025.

Tiitinen was selected for inclusion by The Guardian in an article titled ‘Next Generation 2025: 60 of the best young talents in world football’. Michael Yokhin wrote: “Hopes are high that the versatile midfielder will grow into a major star. Tiitinen is a smart and dedicated footballer, who loves to read and play chess in his free time.”

Charlton Athletic spend record transfer fee to sign striker Boama

Icelandic international Linda Lif Boama has signed a three-year contract with Charlton Athletic Women.

The Addicks announced they had paid a club record fee for the 25-year-old forward, who arrives from Kristianstads DFF.

Boama told Charlton’s official website: “It’s always been a dream to play in the WSL, so I’m happy to be here.”

Keira Flannery, who spent last season on loan with the Addicks, has signed a three-year contract to remain in SE7.

The 20-year-old midfielder, previously on the books of West Ham United, featured 22 times in the previous campaign.

CAST want fans to help protect The Valley

Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust is calling on supporters to submit email comments to Greenwich Council to protect the club’s future at The Valley under the new Local Development Plan.

“This is a once in 10 years opportunity to ensure the council takes notice,” said CAST.

“Royal Borough of Greenwich is currently undertaking a second round of consultation on the new Local Development Plan. Once adopted, this plan will shape planning and development decisions over the coming 10 years or more.

“CAST, with the support of the club, is submitting a detailed response via planning consultancy 4TY Planning, led by former CAST board member Mark Batchelor. The new plan as proposed provides no protection for The Valley and its curtilage beyond noting it as a “public destination”. This is even weaker than the existing local plan.”

The deadline for comments is September 6.

Ex-players on the move

Cardiff have signed West Brom’s Krystian Bielik on loan for the season - with Leyton Orient’s Tyreeq Bakinson also making a campaign-long switch to Plymouth Argyle.

The 21-year-old centre-back arrives from Nottingham Forest.

Bindon is a New Zealand international and featured in all three of their World Cup group games in June. They finished bottom of Group G.

The Auckland-born player has previously had loans at Reading, where he also started his playing career once based in the UK, and Sheffield United.

Charlton have had to react to backline injuries with Collins Sichenje and Billy Koumetio forced off early with injuries in Wednesday’s 5-1 EFL Cup defeat to Tottenham.

The knee injury sustained by Sichenje is set to keep the Kenyan out for a prolonged period of time.

Bindon is a right-footed centre-back but also able to play at right-back. Kayne Ramsay, who recently signed a new contract, can also fill those two roles but is not expected to return from an ankle injury until after the international break.

Bindon played 26 times for Sheffield United last season - 22 of those starts. An ankle problem kept him out of their final two fixtures. He won three successive Player of the Match awards for the Blades in March.

“We have done very well to get him,” Nathan Jones told South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition. “He improves the squad significantly. He is probably somebody we couldn’t have afforded to buy.

Well, the Addicks managed to make it three victories on the spin in the Championship and it left them top of the table on Saturday night.

Karlan Grant’s 56th minute goal at The Valley - his first since re-signing for the Addicks - meant Jones managed his first victory over a side bossed by Paul Heckingbottom, who had won three of the four previous matches.

The perfect start continues. What did you make of that?

Jones: “We thoroughly deserved it. They had one chance all game which was the header (Callum Lang) where he was stretching. Apart from that we contained them.

“We listened to their manager and what he said after their game on Wednesday - that they knew what they were going to do against Charlton. They had our number in the three games (before today). They play a back five against us and have someone who goes in between the lines, so they play a bit of diamond, and we hadn’t handled it very well.

“Today we stuck to our shape. We didn’t try to contain. We tried to believe in what we did. We were excellent, apart from having a bit more cutting edge and getting the second [goal].

“I’m really pleased and really proud of the group, especially after the week we’ve had. Amari’i (Bell) has played through injury. We have got Mesik, who has had to put in a massive shift at Tottenham and then had to go again.”

The defender, 25, has signed a new four-year contract which commits him to the SE7 club until the summer of 2030.

Ramsay is working his way back from an ankle injury suffered in one of the final training sessions before the Championship opener against Derby County.

The former Southampton youngster has made 80 appearances for Charlton since signing from Harrogate Town in February 2024.

“I love the manager. I love all the players. It just feels like home,” said Ramsay, talking about ending any uncertainty over his long-term future. “We are looking very ambitious, especially the way we are playing and starting the season well, with two wins in the league. The Tottenham game was tough but it’s still a great experience for the players who played.

“I think we have a good chance of doing something here. Obviously the first season is always going to be hard, just being promoted, but now we know where we are it is easier, because you have played against the players before, you know how to play and deal with certain situations. You know how cut-throat the division is.

“At the start of last season we had that bounce of winning at Wembley. Teams didn’t really know Charlton at that time. Now we have done a season and teams get to know how we’re playing. But in pre-season we have been elevating things. We have a different style - whether that is playing in behind or playing a back four or back five. We can stretch teams. We can go up, around or through them. It is about having different ways of winning games.”

Nathan Jones labelled Charlton Athletic’s 5-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup as “absolutely disastrous”.

The Addicks boss made 10 changes from the side that picked up an impressive derby win at West Ham United at the weekend.

The aim was clearly to give minutes to some other players in his squad but also factoring in they are back in Championship action against Preston North End on Saturday afternoon.

Jones was forced into two changes as early as the 15th minute with Collins Sichenje and Billy Koumetio, the only one to retain his place from the victory over the Hammers, coming off at the same time.

Sichenje damaged his left knee really early on. Initially he carried on after requiring treatment but did not last long. Koumetio, impressive since his transfer from Dundee this summer, had a hamstring issue. They were replaced by Lloyd Jones and Danny McNamara.

Mikey Moore and Dominic Solanke scored just before half-time to put Spurs in control of the tie.

Kevin Danso headed a third, just second after coming on as a substitute. Savio, making his debut following a £60million move from Manchester City, guided home a fourth shortly after replacing Solanke.

Tottenham had a fifth goal in the 85th minute, Savio’s shot clipping off Ben Davies on the way past Tiernan Brooks, making his debut.

Charlton did manage a consolation when Lloyd Jones headed in from Joe Rankin-Costello’s corner. It was the centre-back’s third goal of the season and he has scored in every game since the EFL Cup opener at Cheltenham.

“It is a pretty disastrous night for us,” said Addicks boss Jones. “Not the result, or going out of the cup, but the injuries we picked up. To lose three centre-halves, we lost Reece Burke the other day, that is the difficult thing.

“When you come up against Premier League sides now they are difficult animals, physically strong and how they play. It is very difficult to create an upset. What we have to do is concentrate on the Championship - but that’s really caused us an issue now.

“We are not going to win this competition. Were we going to win tonight? Was an upset on the cards? It’s very hard to beat Premier League sides now. It’s not like the olden days where it was a dodgy pitch, the rain hammers down and you can get in and amongst them. These are billion pound squads now.

Nathan Jones has explained why Charlton Athletic will not be making a striker signing in the summer transfer window.

The Addicks have completed eight deals since the end of last season and are hoping that Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi makes it nine.

Negotiations were at an advanced stage for the 23-year-old winger yesterday.

But so far one the frontline is one area that has not seen any incomings.

Veteran striker Matty Godden missed Saturday’s 2-1 victory over West Ham with a hamstring injury. Miles Leaburn led the line in his absence and performed strongly before making way in the closing stages for Micah Mbick, another academy product.

And Jones feels that bringing in another frontman would risk stunting the development of those players already on the club’s books.
